Key dates for voters to know for May primaries

Here’s a look at the upcoming key election dates for voters to know. Election Day is May 2.

April 3: Voter registration deadline

Unregistered voters interested in voting in the primary elections have until 4:30 p.m. April 3 to apply to register or transfer their registration in person at the Johnson County Voter Registration Office. The office is located in the basement of the Johnson County Courthouse, 5 E. Jefferson St., Franklin.

People can also apply online to register or transfer registration by going to before midnight.

April 17: Early voting opens

The first day of early voting will begin on April 17 at the Johnson County Courthouse. The courthouse will be open as an early voting site from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on April 17-21 and April 24-28. On April 22 and April 29, which are both Saturdays, voters can vote from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Four additional early voting sites will be open on April 22, April 26-28 and April 29. Voters will be able to cast ballots at the John R. Drybread Community Center in Edinburgh, and library branches in White River Township, Greenwood and Trafalgar.

Voting will be open on April 22 and 29 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. From April 26-28, voting will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The last day of early voting will be on May 1. Voters can vote from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the courthouse.

April 20: Absentee ballot application deadline

Applicants requesting delivery of an absentee ballot by mail must deliver an absentee ballot application to the Johnson County County Clerk’s office by 11:59 p.m. April 20, per Indiana law.
